I am a 46-year-old Black woman who has lived with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) for 28 years. That’s nearly three decades of navigating a chronic skin condition that causes painful wounds, scarring, and shame—yet is barely acknowledged in most medical spaces.

Like many, I suffered in silence. I was misdiagnosed. Dismissed. I wore long sleeves in summer. I hid my pain, my body, my truth. And I carried that isolation for years—until I couldn’t anymore.

But here’s what they don’t tell you: there is life after diagnosis.
There is healing. There is joy.
There is power in your pain.

Through a mix of biologics, surgery, natural supplements, yoga, meditation, and spiritual ritual, I found remission. It wasn’t a straight line, and it didn’t come easy—but I found it. And in doing so, I realized something deeper:
